How did Rocket Dog Rescue come to be?

“Rocket Dog Rescue was founded in 2001 by Pali Boucher. We are a 501-C3 nonprofit corporation supported completely by donations. We are an all volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned animals from euthanasia in overcrowded bay area shelters, literally giving them a second chance at life.”

How did you personally get involved in animal rescue?

“I got involved in animal rescue when I moved back to the SF bay area and realized that the dogs I was walking in the shelter were actually not getting adopted but instead, euthanized. I knew I wanted to do more to help so I got involved in rescue.”

What is a typical day for you like when you are working with/for Rocket Dog Rescue?

“A typical RDR day involves going to the shelter, rescuing dogs, getting dogs into foster homes, doing adoptions, planning fundraisers, writing grants, working at adoption events, etc, etc...so much to do, so few hours in the day!”

What are common misconceptions about the dogs you work with?

“A common misconceptions about the dogs we save are that they are all crazy, old, sick, unwanted breeds, etc. That is SO not true. We get EVERY type of dog in the shelter, all ages, all breeds, ALL wonderful!”

What is the best thing the average person can do in the interest of these dogs?

“The average person can help all animals by volunteering at the shelter (even if it's hard to go into a shelter, think about how much joy you can bring to the dogs and cats inside just by walking them or sitting with them, you might be the only friendly face they ever know), volunteering with rescue groups, fostering (fostering dogs or cats is an AMAZING way to give back...you take in a dog and care for them as your own. Then you work with rescue groups to place them in the perfect home...it is SO rewarding!), adopting from a shelter or rescue group instead of going to a breeder or pet store, spaying and neutering their pets (we kill over 6 million dogs and cats a year in our nation's shelter system!) and going vegan (we kill a million animals a MINUTE in our nation's factory farms)!!!”
